I'm Asher Friedman

...a User Experience designer and researcher in Austin, TX. I discovered UX after already working for 3 years as an engineer, then dove head-first into this passion and haven't looked back.

I work in User Experience but I didn’t start that way. My working career began as an Electrical Engineer coming out of Texas A&M University.

I stumbled into User Experience by accident when I went to New York University for a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. It was during that new student orientation that I first heard the words “user experience”. I was captivated instantly.

That night, I sent a dozen emails to any authority I could conceive asking to transfer to the department which taught the amazing topic I had never heard before. My orientation wasn’t even over yet. Through months of correspondence and coordination I was able to make the transfer and received my Master’s of Science in Integrated Digital Media for my new passion: User Experience.

Except it wasn’t a new passion; it was an old passion. I soon realized I had always craved and understood user experience as a concept and core value. I didn’t know it was an area of study and I didn’t know it even had a name, but it was something that secretly impassioned me in all my life’s activities.

My areas of interest, as you’ll see in my portfolio, are a motley crew of board games, numismatics, voting methods, gardening, and artwork. A common cord between them, I now recognize, is my vitality for user experience. craved and understood user experience as a concept and core value. I didn’t know it was an area of study and I didn’t know it even had a name, but it was something that secretly impassioned me in all my life’s activities.
